If you haven’t already, catch up with Surviving Society, a series of podcasts created by three researchers that give a sociological view on current affairs and daily life.

Chantelle Lewis, a PhD researcher at Goldsmiths, Tissot Regis, and Saskia Papadakis a PhD candidate at Royal Holloway, recorded the podcasts with Karis Campion, Mark Ball, Elsa Oommen, Nasar Meer, Shey Fyffe, and Aaron Winter at the BSA Annual Conference.

Topics tackled include researching the far right, mixed race identities, darts and line dancing, long-term Caribbean migrants, and racism in Scotland. Some were recorded at the BSA Annual Conference last month.

The organisers say: “We are fed up with the mainstream conversations taking place around politics and current affairs. Every episode, we each pick a topic that has made us angry, either from the news or from our daily lives, and talk about why it matters from a sociological perspective.

“Through public sociology, we want to challenge common-sense understandings of ‘race’, class, and gender, and to show how entrenched inequalities shape both political conversations and individual experiences. Surviving Society helps you to cope with uncertain political times by looking at everything from a sociological perspective.”
